AMD Cryo PC Review

Page 1: Vixxy's Nano

Back in July Cryo PC provided all of the Infused Female team with Cryo Nano PC's of the 5 PC's 4 of them were kitted out with Intel CPU's, mine however was AMD, the reason for this is mainly, that with variation, whilst we are at lan etc, people can see a wider range of what is on offer from Cryo, with different budgets & of course to see them in action. The other reason is that as many will know i use my pc for various graphics projects, not really on a professional level, mainly for fun, but i am aware of what a good multi purpose PC should have. The most notable thing is Quad core, something that at the moment, gamers do not need. So with this in mind, let me tell you the spec of the PC that i personally have, it is substantially different from those that belong to the rest of the girls, whilst at the same time not being out of reach for most gamers budgets.

  •  AMD Phenom II 940 (quad core), Cryo Boost overclocked to 3.7GHz
  •  Lian-Li V351 Black case
  •  Sapphire HD4890 1GB graphics
  •  Gigabyte MA78GM AM2+ board
  •  Seagate 7200.12 500GB drive

I want to start with the case, apart from being very small and compact, which is idea for taking to LAN etc, it is a slightly awkward size for my desk, but for that small inconvience, its still very small and easy to move around, with the additional benefit that it looks so cute because its a little different to most cases. It gets quiet hot at the back though, so it does need to sit somewhere that it can breathe a little, that said, it has never over heated in the 3 months that i have had it, which was a common occurance with my old PC.

In the past 10 years i have owned roughly 6 PC's all of which when bought where fairly high spec, but with the high spec comes heat, and the requirement of loads of fans, and for the most part, generally a noisey PC (one that i had sounded like a Jet taking off when booted up!) This cryo though is virtually silent, a fact im sure my team mates on ventrillo are glad of, given they normally have to listen to my turbine like fans wurring consistantly!

For a reason that i do not understand, the majority of 'pro' and 'semi-pro' call of duty players like to have very low graphics settings, which means that they dont need to have an amazing graphics card to get the standard 125 frames per second, but i personally like my game to be very pretty, and have all the settings at the highest, so for me, the better the graphics card the better. The Sapphire HD4890 can not be accused of not performing. Even if you are one of these players that does have low settings, the benifits of having a better card, out weighs everything else, its worth just that bit extra, everything i have watched, films etc & other games that are graphically intense come alive with this card.

My main comment though is how well this overclocked CPU is, I have yet to run it to a point where it can not handle what im doing. I will often have four or five programs open at once, switching between them, such as Corel Painter, Photoshop CS, then the other basics like Xfire, MSN, Winamp etc. This PC doesn't struggle at all, previously I would only be able to run half of that, and if I had Corel and PS open at the same time, the rest would have to be off (even though my previous PC was also quad core), but this can run so much more, i have also been downloading whilst using Corel & PS whilst also doing system maintennce, it just doesnt seem to be upset by any of it.

Overall this is without doubt the most powerful and reliable PC that I have had the pleasure of using. I can not honestly, hand on heart name any bad points to it at all.
